"Alcryst."
No one had slept well since the battle at Givre Port. Even the cheerful ones were tired of this war, of one nasty surprise after another, even recovering two of the Emblem Rings had only slightly lifted the mood.
But it was rare for anyone not Framme, Clanne, or Sommie to knock on his door this late at night. Alcryst stood nervously in the doorway, an apology on his lips before Alear silenced it by taking his hand.
"Are you sure...?"
"Please." Alear led him inside, smiling sadly. "I can't sleep, either. In fact, I was about to go looking for you." He and Alcryst had grown closer, due in no small part to Alear's determination to befriend him and Alcryst's presence providing a small comfort on the battlefield.
Alcryst blushed, but when Alear laid down under the covers Alcryst didn't hesitate before joining him. The bed was just big enough for the two of them; a bit of a snug fit but it let them nestle close to each other, Alear's arm draping across the prince's shoulders, Alcryst's head neatly tucked into the crook of his neck.
"Thank you, Div-" A pause. "Thank you, Alear. I-I know it probably looks childish-"
"It doesn't," Alear whispered, tracing his fingertips through the prince's silky blue hair. "I feel better already with you this close." Alcryst's blush deepened, and he managed a little smile.
"Then I'm glad." He closed his eyes, his body relaxing, and Alear couldn't help pressing a quick kiss to his hairline. Alcryst made a soft noise, but thankfully didn't panic or get embarrassed. Instead he drew closer, and Alear felt the tension leave his own body as sleep slowly claimed him.
That night, his dreams were calm.
